Value Added Tax (VAT) on non account services

Background

The Government outlined in March 2010 its intention to make certain changes to the postal services VAT exemption affecting services provided by Parcelforce Worldwide. Following agreement by both Houses of Parliament on the text of the Bill it received Royal Assent on 16th December 2010. The Bill is now an Act of Parliament (law) and the change took effect on and from Monday 31st January 2011.

Under the changes, all the services we provide for you are covered by the same legal requirements as our competitors in respect of VAT (retail BFPO retains its special status as exempt from VAT). For retail customers, including all our Post Office® customers, the standard rate of VAT (currently 20%) will apply to items being sent inside the European Union (including the UK) and a rate of zero will apply to items being sent to the rest of the world. There will be no VAT added to Woodland Trust Carbon Offset (collected on behalf of the Woodland Trust and passed directly to it).

We have reviewed all of our retail prices to ensure we remain competitive and continue to provide great value for money. We will not be adding 20% to the gross price of all our retail services to which the standard rate of VAT will apply. For such services, if you are a VAT registered business and are able to fully recover VAT, this will equates to a price reduction in most instances.

Our price guides available at all Post Office branches are inclusive of VAT. If you would like us to send you a Post Office price guide with prices excluding VAT, please email parcelforce@clientmail.eu.com.
