Manual Handling Surcharges
We have seen a significant increase in the variety of parcels and packaging that require manual processing. These parcels incur additional costs as they cannot be processed via our automated sort in our distribution centres.
Previously, all items with a length between 1.1m and 1.5m or with a second largest dimension greater than 0.7m, attracted the manual handling surcharge of £2.95*
We have therefore reviewed the type of items that need to be handled manually and from the 13th July 2020, we have applied a manual handling surcharge to all items that cannot be processed automatically.
Please see our manual handling guide for more details and information on items that require manual processing.
This guide includes details of how in some instances, you can avoid the surcharge through following our packaging guidelines.
Please see parcelforce.com/packaging for our packaging guidelines.
Items that incur a manual surcharge

- Certain liquids and other items with uneven weight distribution or voids in the boxes
- Items that are very thin or flat. Parcels are classed as very thin or flat if they are below 3cm thick
