Important information for senders
Customs, Prohibitions and Restrictions
- Exporting to Switzerland requires customs paperwork for most items from 01 January 2021
- Switzerland is a member of the European Economic Area (EEA) and has access to the EU Market, but is not a formal member of the European Union (EU)
- In order to check that your items are not prohibited or restricted, please check our dedicated page here
- Should you require specific customs advice and the latest rules please visit the Swiss customs website
Taxation Laws
- Swiss Post have informed us of a partial revision to the law on value added tax (VAT) within the country. From 1 January 2025 foreign platforms with an annual turnover of 100,000 CHF or more originating from mail order items sent to customers in the country where Swiss duties are CHF5 or less will be liable to pay VAT. Platforms affected by this rule must register with the Federal Tax Administration (FTA).
- It is the responsibility of the platform to determine their tax liability resulting from this change and to take the appropriate measures. For further information please see: https://www.estv.admin.ch/estv/en/home/fta/tax-politic/tax-policy-issues/partial-revision-vat.html
- This change only applies to companies with the qualifying level of low value mail order sales. In all other respects there is no change to current processes and documentation.
This is for information only and should not be considered to have legal basis. Where doubt exists appropriate legal advice should be sought.

General Advice
- In order to ensure a delivery on time, please ensure that your parcel has the full, correct address, an email address in the correct format and a mobile or landline number for the intended recipient. This will help the delivery partner to ensure the parcel is delivered correct first time. This should be clearly marked on the parcel.
- Timescales shown above do not include delays caused by destination country customs processes. Please be aware that customs could add additional time to your parcel delivery.
- The area of Campione D'Italia (Swiss Postcode 6911) has returned to Italian control for postal service from 01 January 2020 and as a result has become part of the EU Customs Union from that date. Parcels required to reach this area will no longer be treated as 'Switzerland' and will need to be labelled as "Italy" using the postcode 22061 from this date. Any parcels labelled for this destination as Switzerland will be delayed as a result.
