Customs, Prohibitions and Restrictions

• For parcels going to private individuals, the customs authority usually require their national ID number and will contact the recipient to obtain this before a parcel can be released for delivery
• Please note that all medicines to private individuals are prohibited
• Textiles must have contents clearly marked on the commercial invoice and are subject to other labelling regulations.
• Import licences are required for certain textiles, agricultural goods and if the origin is in the Middle / Far East.
• The import of alcohol, arms and ammunition, pharmaceuticals and tobacco is subject to restrictions.
• A customer certificate of age may be required for spirits.
• Foodstuffs are subject to special labelling requirements and as at 01 April 2020 they are now subject to new tax rules (see below).
  • These tax changes are being introduced in 2 stages as follows;
    • Stage 1 - 01 January 2020 the exemption of VAT and other indirect taxes will also be abolished for foodstuffs and goods with import restrictions and goods that are subject to excise duty.
    • Stage 2 - 01 April 2020 the exemption of VAT and other indirect taxes will also be abolished for low-value goods. In this new legislation sellers and online marketplaces (deemed suppliers) will be liable for VAT on cross-border sales of low value goods (3,000 NOK (c. £250) and below) to final consumers in Norway. • Please note that Posten in Norway do not permit entry of multi consignment parcels. When sending more than one item to the same address in the same sitting, these must be done as separate shipments and not as one consignment.

Manual Handling Charges - July 2020 onwards

• As at 01 July 2020 - Norway Post (Bring.no) have introduced a handling surcharge of (NOK 138 including VAT - worth c.£12) for packages that need to be sorted manually - details can be found here
  • It is applicable to packages where one of the sides is over 120 cm or two of the sides are over 60 cm, a surcharge is calculated for manual handling. 
  • The same applies to packages below the minimum size (23 x 13 x 1 cm), packages in roll form and for unpackaged goods.

General Advice

• In order to ensure a delivery on time, please ensure that your parcel has the full, correct address, an email address in the correct format and a mobile or landline number for the intended recipient. This will help the delivery partner to ensure the parcel is delivered correct first time. This should be clearly marked on the parcel.
• Parcels bound for private (home) addresses are initially held and using the above contact information (letter, email and / or call) the recipient is advised of the parcel arriving and arrangements are made to collect from nearest, most convenient pick up point.   
• Items addressed to a PO box address will be left at a local post office for collection and notification left at the PO box address
• Timescales shown above do not include delays caused by destination country customs processes. Please be aware that customs could add additional time to your parcel delivery.
